ASU 15th Annual

Poster Show

Poster Show

Annual poster show and auction hosted by the ASU Visual Communication Design senior class to raise funds for the senior exhibit.

As Secretary of the Graphic Design Senior Student Association, GDSSA, I helped organize and manage the annual Visual Communication Design poster show and auction. For the 15th annual poster show my poster design was selected to represent our show out of 53 submissions.

The Design

My class and I were regularly reaching out to designers and studios for poster donations, collaborating with GDSSA teammates, and taking an active role in our design community. The theme for my poster was inspired by these collaborations.

I wanted the poster to apply well across multiple mediums and being the second time this event was hosted in person after the pandemic I was inspired to make something playful that sparked joy and imagination. My final design was inspired by a combination of illustrating techniques, inspirational artwork, and Josef Albers transparency color theories.

The Marketing

Marketing the poster show was integral to our events success. In order to market the annual show my poster design extended the format of printed collateral and was applied in various formats to adapt to web needs, social media feeds, motion graphics, and environmental signage for the event.

The Site

As a member of the web team I helped to design and develop a website for our event. This website allowed customers to bid on silent auction posters, view the live auction posters, stay updated on the live event, donate to the senior class exhibition fund, and learn about our show. The site was developed with WordPress utilized WooCommerce and was hosted on GoDaddy. On the silent auction page, participants could see every poster sorted by section with their current bid. There was also a continuous live stream in the corner that notified prospective buyers every time there was a bid. To keep things engaging users had the ability to put prospective posters on their “watch list.”

The Event

For the first time ever this event had record breaking attendance, and sales. This was largely contributed to the hard work of my classmates, professors and the leadership board of GDSSA. I could not have had better leaders with me my senior year, and am excited to see what the future holds for my graduating class.
